Vastu Shastra, in simple language, is a Science of house building. In ancient times, Vedic civilization used to plan a lot before moving out to a new house or new constructions. They used to take into account various religious aspects and calculate their moves accordingly. Let me make it clear that architecture and Vastu Science are two different things. Vastu is not only house-craft but also a religious ritual.
An architect’s job is to build a house with all modern amenities but he is not in a position to guarantee a happy life to the people living in that house, whereas Vastu Science confirms and gives a guarantee for this. Architecture has been considered a worldly act among all the human civilizations of this world, while architecture in Nepal is a religious activity.
It will be difficult to understand Vastu unless we understand the religious beliefs behind it. Believers of Vastu assert that planning and constructing a house without Vastu is nothing but a concrete structure and the value of the house becomes zero.
Some people with modern outlook do not believe in Vastu and think it a waste of money and efforts. They would rather build a house and for namesake, would some puja. For this category of people, Vastu as s concept has not been popularised, it will take some time before the concept becomes a household name.
In reality, Vastu Shastra is a priceless gift to mankind. Countries like Germany, China, Japan, India, and America are some of the nations which took full benefits of our ancient, priceless science.
In the modern age, Vastu Shastra has gained a position of pre-eminence in recent years. Every Publication worth its name- from national dailies, news magazines and television, radio has Vastu experts on the panel to aid and advice readers, viewers, and listeners on how best to construct new residences and their places of work as well as remodel the existing structures on vastu guidelines. But authoritive treatise on this ancient Science of Architecture are just not available, if available they are beyond the reach of the common people.
Hence this work to provide information and guideline in simple and lucid language to the general public.Astrologer Dr.S.Suneel’s Vastu Sense seeks to provide all that you have wanted to know about Vastu in this small effort. It explains the meaning of the vastu science and importance as well as provides practical guidelines for site evaluation and laying foundations for house, the various ceremonies to be performed, the importance of directions as per the ancient rules, etc. in addition to putting forth the relationship between the Vedic Vastu Shastra and the Chinese Feng Shui.

Dowsing Tools in Vastu Shastra
Modern Physicist now recognizes that energy and matter are inter-convertible and interchangeable, with matter being the lowest degree of energy and Energy the Highest degree of matter. They are one and the same. In 1905 Albert Einstein formulated a relation between matter and energy, E=mc2 (E=energy M= mass and C= the speed of light). Meaning matter at speed of light is called energy and when is slows down it reverts back to matter. Dowsers strongly apply this principle to provide a physical explanation for dowsing consciousness. If though is energy, it must have the capacity to manifest at a physical level. Hence the power of though is the secret of dowsing consciousness. This aligns very well with the concept of vastu and the effects of life force energy and geo-physical energy. With this in mind, life force energy and geo-magnetic energy also have the capacity to manifest at a physical level and these can be measured by using tools like L-rod, Y-rod and pendulum.
Dowsing extensively uses the power of conscious and subconscious mind. A true principle behind dowsing is the use of mind and body as a combined transmitter and receiving test. As the body –mind is sensitive transmitter-receiver the instruction given to the subconscious must be definite and concise. The science of dowsing therefore consists in nothing more than giving instruction to the subconscious mind .

Nepalese Vastu Culture
Use of vastu Shastra was a wide spread practice in Nepalese culture. The Temples,Mathas,Chowks etc found in Nepal, especially within Katmandu Valley, Which are estabilished in various periods of Nepalese history. These are prime examples of use of vastu in Nepal.
Another Typical example of vastu being practiced in Nepal which is not obvious to general public is the use of Shagun. Shagun is a very important and symbolic practice in Newari culture, which has been practiced since ancient times. Shagun consist of five different varities of foods and it is believed that these represent five elements of the nature.Bara(Who) representing the Ether,Egg representing the Earth, Ginger representing the Fire, Fish representing the Water and Meat representing the Air.
Shgagun is given to a person to consume when these things are going well e.g. promotion at work etc to wish them further success. Shagun is also given when things are not going well for a person e.g. after accident etc.it is believed that things don’t go well, When five elements of nature are not in harmony. As people are generally not aware of which elements out of five are causing this disharmony. It is believed that all the five elements are included is Shagun to cover all the grounds. The basic idea is that when a person consumes Shagun is balances all the five elements that are required for a successful healthy and happy life.
Integration of Vastu Shastra in Newari Culture can also be seen in Mha Puja (Atma Puja), which is celebrated in Tihar (Deepawali).Mha Ouja is performed by praying a Mandala and offering Shagun (described above) for purification strengthening and understanding of the self. This mandala consists of five circles representing five element of nature which is turn is surrounded by Ashta Chiranjeevi for health and long life. Each Family member transfers their own five elements into this Mandala and performs a prayer to balance the five elements.

Nepalese Vastu shastra
Nepalese Vastu Shastra is complete understanding of direction, geography, topography, environment & physic for happy & healthy living. it is also study of Astro-Engineering, Which dicates the form ,Size & Orientation of a residential ,commercial, or official building, in relation to the plot, soil, surroundings & the personality of the house-owner and /or the dweller.
The theories of vastu shastra were developed in various region and circumstances by long -term experiment & result of various sages, rishis & Maharshis with their own experiments. Therefore is obviously clear to be differing in some aspects of it's technicalities. We can trace out many differences between South based Maya Vastu and North based Viswakarma Vastu.Similarly we can compare various aspects vastu in South & North ,as well as in Eastern & Western Vastu.
A study has indicated that more than 25,000 astrologer are practicing in Nepal .Most of the astrologers more or less suggest some of the aspects of Vastu that many be Griharambha Process, Griha-Pravesh Murutha or Vastu Muhurtha. besides the astrologers, a small Number of engineers and some Vastu Advisors are also active in Nepal. Western influences to the young generation as well as unwillingness of the new generation towards own cultures are some of the dominating factor for Nepalese Vastu development.
However the main aspect of Nepalese Vastu is more or less similar to the north Indian system.
There are various steps of vastu in process mainly following nine steps are strictly followed in Nepalese society:-
1. Land site checking ( bhumi Parikshan)
2. Combination examination Of the dweller & the land ( Kakini Analysis)
3. Foundation at the construction point ( Griharambha)
4. Placement adjustment (Sthana-binyas)
5. Entrance Fixation ( Dwara-nyasa)
6. Interior management (Griha-byabasthapan)
7. Dwelling Ceremony ( Griha- Prevesh)
8. Vastu Puja &
9. Corrective Measures ( Griha- Sudar)
These all process are strictly followed in Prasad Vastu & industrial Vastu also. Temple Vastu theories were used to follow from the very beginning in Nepalese society. Recently new trends has been started and the vastu rules are applied in some of new areas, like Tea Garden, Agro- Farming, Town -Planning, urban forestry & plantation, educational Institutions, Hospitals and health institutions.
In conclusion , it is obvious that Nepal is rich enough in the field of ancient Vedic culture, Vastu - Shastra and other Astro - Scientific technologies.
